Many of our suggested accommodations include breakfast, but for those who need it, breakfast in Winterset can be found at The Bakery Unlimited, Montross Pharmacy and Cafe, Rudy’s Restaurant, Subway, and The Cellar. A continental breakfast (included in registration) is available at the registration location on both Friday and Saturday mornings.
On Friday, lunch will be served at our area churches. You will receive a packet with information describing the meal you chose when you registered and its location. On Saturday, a box lunch will be provided for the Underground Railroad Workshop & Bus Tour.
On Thursday evening, we invite you to join us for a “Meet Me at Cedar Bridge” reception just out of town at the Cedar Covered Bridge, hosted by the mayor of Winterset, James Olson. There is no fee to attend this event, but be sure to say “yes” on the registration form so we can plan for you. Light hors d’oeuvres, wine and beverages will be served in an idyllic rural setting on and around the bridge. Music and conversation with fellow preservationists will make this a special evening. Parking is available around the bridge and a map will be included in your registration packet or check out the Maps page (coming soon). After the reception, you may enjoy returning to Winterset for a Community Band concert on the Courthouse steps along with food served by a local service group or dining in one of our local restaurants. See the Dining page for more details.
On Thursday evening we invite you to dine at these restaurants: China Cafe, Northside Cafe, The Little Dublin Irish Pub, Anything Sweet & More Cafe, Mi Pueblito Mexican Restaurant (103 N. 1st St.), Frostee’s, Subway, Rudy’s Restaurant, The Sports Page, Rhapsody, and Montross Fountain.
On Friday evening, we invite you to join us for our banquet and keynote address on the grounds of the Madison County Historical Complex. This is an add-on ticketed event for $26.00, and will include a full meal and beverages. Preservation Iowa’s “Preservation at its Best Awards” will be presented, and the keynote address is provided by Bonnie McDonald of Illinois Landmarks, “Do Take it Personally: Inspiring Us to Care About Our Heritage.”
